Topic: 'Reflections of Youth Group Member & Founder Some 42 Years Later!'

Accokeek, MD // Princeville, NC____Contrary to the culturally-mixed-emotional opinions of whether or not 'Black Lives Matter'. It really depends upon the tribe one belongs to-truth be told! All lives should matter; pending on the broad scope of one's genuine appreciations of life itself. In addition to the moral and spiritual intellectual attributes/values from which one's perspective derives. FYI. Just a few days pass, I had another golden opportunity to enchant a cousin's birthday celebration, and with all the social media capturing the special celebrated-moment; one of the daughters sent it to the infamous 'Face Book' network and it apparently went viral!

So unto my beknowing; a person that was in my life some 42-45 years saw the 'LIVE' performance of my singing 'Happy Birthday' to the Birthday Lady
of the moment. So via the miracle of the social media I had the pleasure and honor to revisit one of my many students/members who was under my tutelage among 40-50 members of 'Do It For The Kid's Foundation' headquartered at that time in Gary, IN! We had a youth choir among our mentoring-juvenile intervention guidelines and occasionally would be granted the rare opportunity to showcase the children and their progress to the entire community and beyond. As Gary, IN was at this time (1980's) was perhaps ranked as the #1 Crime Capital of North America multi-racially with underserved youth Blacks, Whites, Latinos/Mexican, all of whom I loved and treated as my own biological children-that would be how I was tagged the name of "Uncle Milton"! And that 'nickname' I proudly have adorned, has followed me ever since-even here @ 77 next month Feb. 13th God's Will!

Yet there's one occasion that stands out in my mind so vividly; was the youngest soul entrusted in my care was a small cute little tot named 'Little Sammy Williams'. As it was in our Ordained-DNA as spiritual mentors/leaders of the most vulnerable in our care-the 'smallest ones' got the most attention. Due the natural protective, mental attitude along disciplinary guidelines that comes with belonging to such a caring organization as "Do It For The Kids!" We were into building/molding role models; and even the older children gladly accepted the responsibilities and were held accountable for their behavior whenever they were in the presence of the youngest ones. They were some of the greatest's children that God would entrust into my custody and I still have fond memories of those little angels!

The moment I wish to share of many was the time we showcased for a fundraiser there at the Convention Center in Gary, IN. Performing the original youth foundation's theme song; "DO IT FOR THE KIDS TODAY!" before some 20,000 in attendance featuring such noted celebrated artists as; Harry Belafonte, Dick Gregory, Nancy Wilson, Sinbad, Jerry Butler and the beautiful TV Personality 'Jane Kennedy' who interviewed some of the kids and myself. We/the Children's performance closed out the event and actually stole the show with this being their first time appearance, and it was 'little Sammy's (age 5-6 years old)-his high pitched voice that ranged out over the rest-putting a signature end to a successful and happy eventful experience!

Inclosing, I'm trying to place emphasis upon how the Lord uses us in His Master Plan in the lives of others we have no preconcerts or reason of why.
So let me leave you with this; 'food for thought' in the midst of what's currently going on in our lives. I'm praying and hoping that the many young lives that God has allowed me to personally interact and touch, perhaps it was worth every concerted effort to save them from the perils they could've met. It made my heart pump with extra adrenalin to hear how this young man (Mr. Sammy Williams II) has developed into. So whenever you get a chance to interact with one of the millenniums of today, try to see through the color of their skin, or their religion or their status in the social world. And see the potential of their character that's yet to be fully developed, for it's the nurturing of that young seed, yearning for the love, the patience and guidance, we as (mentors) only can give with God as our source. For we will never know how effective we may have been in the lives we touch, but we first must recognize that it's a soul (the source of life) that have been placed before us.
